Tinted papers and coloured overlays have been found to aid visual learning, memory recall and reduce visual stress, depending on the individual. All of these are components within SEN Learning. There are studies to suggest the colours help wording to be seen clearer and stand out on the page. This is because the colours help block specific wavelengths produced on white backgrounds and black text, which some people may struggle with.

You do not, however, need to be a SEN Learner to use these types of products. There are many other uses for them! When learning different topics, students may find it helpful to use specific colours for specific subjects. This is because the colour may create a visual memory trigger, making revision and recall easier during high stress times like exam time.
